Marcia Freedman was deeply passionate about art and culture. She was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and earned her BS and MFA from Wayne State University. She taught art in the Detroit Public Schools for decades, as well as the Center for Creative Studies, and was a mentor to many students who shared her passion. 

Marcia was known for her abstract painting, almost exclusively on canvas. She loved Wayne State and all the opportunities it provided for her.  She maintained an art studio on Wayne State's campus for many years and later moved her studio to the Pioneer Building. 

She loved and breathed art. It nourished her soul.  

Make a gift in Marcia's memory to the Wayne State University's Art Galleries to educate the next generation of visual artists, designers and art historians in the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts.
