About

Giving Day contributions of every size make a major difference! Support one of these projects today and make a difference in cutting-edge research in human health and development.

Your Giving Day gift helps advance groundbreaking research that improves the health of women, children, and families in our community and beyond. Since its founding in 1973, the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development at Wayne State University has been a leader in translational research that connects laboratory discovery with real-world clinical care. Our scientists and physicians work together to understand the earliest origins of health and disease and to develop innovative approaches that improve outcomes across generations.

Mott Center Research Sustainability Initiative

The Mott Center Research Sustainability Fund supports the long-term strength and innovation of the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development. Philanthropic support allows the center to sustain groundbreaking research, invest in emerging scientific opportunities, support junior investigators and pilot projects, and maintain the collaborative environment that drives discovery. Gifts to this fund help ensure that the Mott Center continues to advance research that improves the health of women and children and strengthens our community for generations to come.

Discovery to Cure Internship Program

The Discovery to Cure program provides high school students with hands-on research experience in biomedical laboratories at Wayne State University. Through mentorship from faculty scientists and exposure to cutting-edge research, students gain insight into careers in science and medicine while contributing to meaningful scientific work. Your support helps inspire and train the next generation of scientists dedicated to women’s and children’s health.

Maternal Medicine and Preterm Birth Research

Detroit continues to face one of the highest preterm birth rates in the United States. Researchers at the Mott Center are working to better understand the biological, environmental, and clinical factors that contribute to pregnancy complications and preterm birth. By developing improved diagnostic tools, preventive strategies, and targeted interventions, this research aims to improve maternal health and ensure healthier outcomes for mothers and babies in our community and beyond.
