Giving Day contributions of every size make a major difference! Support the Freer House and Garden today.
- Once the Freer House and Garden has raised $3,500 on Giving Day, a $2,000 gift will be unlocked, thanks to generous leadership match contributions from Lillian and Walter Dean and the Garden Club of Michigan.
Built by industrialist and art collector Charles Lang Freer in 1892, the Freer House is a masterpiece of American shingle-style architecture and the birthplace of the Freer Gallery of Art, National Museum of Asian Art, Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. As an early champion of American, Asian, and Middle Eastern art, Freer’s legacy of multi-culturalism is celebrated in the house’s mission and programming today. These bonds to our nation’s capital and much of the world make the Freer House an ambassador of Detroit’s unique cultural heritage. Freer House is the headquarters of the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute at 71 E. Ferry Street.
