Our mission is to offer a diverse student body a broad and rigorous education in the liberal arts and sciences. We prepare students for many types of occupations and for further study in graduate and professional school. Our graduates benefit from attending a public, urban, research-intensive university, a mission CLAS contributes to greatly.
- Gifts supporting the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Annual Fund help provide college-wide resources; expanding our ability to support a range of College to Career and educational opportunities, including: awards for student travel to professional conferences, community outreach, events and programs, funding for student and faculty research, and more. Contributions to the Annual Fund also support the Falcon Cam Project. Wayne State's Old Main building has been home to a bonded pair of peregrine falcons since 2016. The Falcon Cam project launched in 2019 through a collaboration between the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a group of generous benefactors. It started with just one camera to help biologists monitor the birds, but has since grown to include a second camera, a dedicated social media presence and a global community of viewers who tune in to watch the peregrinesโ every move. Your gift to the Falcon Cam allows researchers and the public alike to monitor these fascinating birds of prey 24 hours a day.
- Support the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Internship Program as we create paid internship opportunities for students across all twenty departments. Internships maximize a student's education and provide invaluable real-world experience. And because CLAS partners with local organizations, corporations and nonprofits, students can gain experience in the industries that power Detroit. The average internship for CLAS students requires significant time, eight hours per week for 11 weeks, and can cause students to miss out on paid work opportunities estimated at $1,500. That commitment of time and money is in addition to their coursework, textbooks and supplies, and often a full- or part-time job. Your gift, no matter how small, can go a long way in supporting hands-on learning, invaluable networking opportunities and an entry point for a successful career.
- Contributions to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Scholarship directly impact students by helping to make education accessible โ keeping the college competitive with peers and ensuring that students have the financial support they need to complete their educational programs from one of our twenty majors.
