Successful Aging through Financial Empowerment
The Successful Aging through Financial Empowerment (SAFE) program was created in 2017 and is housed at Wayne State University's Institute of Gerontology. The SAFE program is dedicated to preventing and addressing the financial exploitation of older adults. SAFE connects with older adults and caregivers directly to build financial skills to prevent scams and offer no cost, one on one assistance to older adults and caregivers when recovering from a scam. Since its creation SAFE has assisted over 150 older adults and caregivers through providing no cost one on one financial coaching services to address financial exploitation or management issues. The SAFE program currently offers community education, one on one services, a prevention program and caregiver services and education to the older adult community. SAFE is dedicated to protecting older adults and being ally in the fight against the financial exploitation of older adults.
