Giving Day contributions of every size make a major difference! Support the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies today.
Center for Peace and Conflict Studies Annual Fund
Our students have grown up in an era of school shootings and violent extremism; they now see Europe being pulled back into war. The Center for Peace and Conflict Studies confronts issues of gun violence, international conflict, and war, by advancing education and research on human violence, conflict resolution, and the development of safe and peaceful communities.
A gift to the annual fund will support urgent initiatives such as:
- Gun violence and mass shootings - What can Americans agree on? In response to the tragic shootings at Oxford (November 2021), Uvalde (May 2022), and Michigan State University (February 2023), WSU faculty and graduate students surveyed hundreds of U.S. citizens, especially gun owners—those who directly grapple with questions about gun ownership in their own lives—to look for areas of agreement about the causes of such violence. The aim is to find sustainable, nonpartisan paths to community safety.
- Russian invasion of Ukraine - Internationally, we responded to the Russia-Ukraine conflict as soon as it began. In March (2022), we launched an international survey of over two thousand American, German, and Polish residents to understand how, when, and why people support the sending of weapons to Ukraine.
Such violence brings people back to classic questions about whether there is such a thing as a โgood war" or a โbad peace." The Center for Peace and Conflict Studies encourages discussion of such questions among students, as well as members of the community.
A gift to the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies will be applied immediately to support the study of the roots of conflict in society and educate the next generation to be resilient and wise as they learn to become more than peacekeepers but also peacemakers.
