Giving Day 2023

Giving Day 2023 was one month ago, but we are still blown away by the incredible impact of our Warrior community. Thank you to everyone who supported Wayne State's amazing students, groundbreaking research and critical urban programs.

Not only did we meet our goal of 1,800 donors for Giving Day 2023 - but we also raised more than $1 million for our amazing students, brilliant faculty, groundbreaking research and critical urban programs, which move Detroit and our world forward. 

We are blown away by your support! This is proof that Warrior generosity makes our impact stronger.

Challenges:

✅ $100,000 was raised for the Mike Ilitch School of Business, unlocking a $100,000 from Sean Werdlow. 

✅ 100 gifts were made to the Mike Ilitch School of Business, unlocking a $30,000 gift from Fred and Sue Sievert. 

✅ 20 gifts were made to the President's Enhancement Fund, unlocking a $10,000 gift from Dr. Margaret E. Winters and Dr. Geoffrey S. Nathan.

✅ 50 donors gave to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, unlocking a $2,500 gift from Dean Stephanie Hartwell. 

✅ 100 donors gave to the College of Nursing, unlocking a gift of  $2,000 from Dean Laurie Lauzon Clabo.

✅ $1,000 was raised for the Ilitch Student Challenge, unlocking a $1,000 gift from an anonymous donor.

Matches: 

✅ David and Julie Ripple matched $25,000 to Athletics.

✅ Dr. Bob Pettapiece, 80 matched $5,000 to the Honors College Finish Line Endowment Fund.

✅ Engineering Alumni Council matched $2,000 to the 

College of Engineering Scholarship Fund.

✅ Dean Kleist matched $1,000 to the Ilitch Student Challenge. 

✅ An anonymous donor matched $1,000 to the Freer House and Garden.

✅ An anonymous donor matched $500 to Department of Urban Planning Internships.

There’s still time to make your gift!

From student scholarships to hardship assistance, there are more than 80 programs, funds, areas and initiatives to choose from.

We are also just a few gifts away from unlocking thousands of matches and challenge dollars.

There are still matches and challenges available to increase the impact of your Giving Day gift. Here are a few close to the finish line: 

🔰 WSU Press Board of Visitors will match $1 per $1 donated to the WSU Press up to $5,000 - only $1,650 left to complete the match!

🔰 Dr. Bob Pettapiece '80 will match $1 per $1 donated to the Finish Line Endowment Fund up to $5,000 - only $1,735 left to complete the match!

🔰 6 donations to the President's Enhancement Fund are needed to unlock a generous $10,000 from Dr. Margaret E. Winters and Dr. Geoffrey S. Nathan.

✅ A gift of $2,100 to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives was unlocked from the WSU Development and Alumni Affairs DEI Committee!

                     

✅ Organization of Black Alumni have matched $750 to the Detroit High School Endowment.

✅ Dean Laurie Lauzon Clabo and the Student Nurses Association have matched $2,000 to the College of Nursing Gertrude E. Skelly Emergency Fund. 

✅ Interim Dean Tom Walker has matched $1,200 to the School of Information Sciences.
