About

Honor Dr. Walter F. Edwards, founding director of the Humanities Center!

The WSU Humanities Center hopes that you will consider donating in honor of the accomplishments of Dr. Edwards, who served as its director for 28 years. During that time, the Humanities Center became an essential source of community and research infrastructure for scholars in the humanities, arts, social sciences, and adjacent disciplines.

Dr. Edwards’ signature program was the Brown Bag Colloquium Series, which provides a regular forum for the exchange, development, and synthesis of ideas for scholars on campus.  Over the years, this series has featured hundreds of faculty presentations, and its long-term success is a testament to Dr. Edwards’ astute leadership as well as to his legendary bonhomie and hospitality.

In honor of Dr. Edwards, the Humanities Center intends to rename this program the Walter F. Edwards Brown Bag Colloquium Series and to establish an endowed fund to cover the program’s operating expenses (most notably, refreshments and technology needs).

We thank you for your generosity!

I understand that this gift shall be used to establish an endowed or expendable support fund benefitting the Dr. Walter F. Edwards Brown Bag Colloquium Series at Wayne State University ("Fund").

In the unlikely event that the amount received does not meet the minimum funding threshold to establish either an endowed or expendable support fund under University Policy, 04-4 Private Support For Named Professorships, Scholarships, Academic And Educational Programs And Endowed Chairs, then the university will not be required to establish the Fund, and it will transfer the amount received to the endowment supporting the Center for Humanities, which sponsors the Dr. Walter F. Edwards Brown Bag Colloquium Series.
