The 39th celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Signed into recognition on February 3, 1987, NGWSD is celebrated each year across the United States. Communities honor notable women athletes and highlight the importance of access, inclusion and equity in sports, including the lasting impact of Title IX.
Women’s Athletics at Wayne State began in 1973 with six teams.
Today, during the 2025-26 competitive season, 153 Warrior female athletes compete across 10 women’s teams. They carry a 3.67 cumulative GPA. In 2025, 134 earned Academic All-GLIAC honors for excellence in the classroom and seven earned All-American recognition in competition.
Beginning with the 2026-27 competitive season, Wayne State will be home to 11 women’s athletic teams as Women’s Soccer was recently announced as a Fall sport.
Since launching the annual NGWSD campaign in 2024, the initiative has raised over $22,000 in support of Women’s Athletics at WSU. This year we’re aiming even higher.
Your gift is one of the most direct ways to strengthen opportunities for Warrior female student-athletes. When you support their team, you help provide resources that fuel academic success and competitive excellence.
Making your gift is easy. Select your favorite WSU women’s team above and complete the checkout process when prompted.
